Evaluation Task 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
The first time the rest of our class saw our music video was on our initial screening. After watching the unfinished project the groups filled out feedback forms and returned them to us.
Most of the forms stated that -
-the video was synced well
-the actor gave a convincing performance
-the pace of editing matched the pace of editing
-the costume suit the genre and style of music
The forms also stated room for improvement -
-Transitions needed to be added to make the cut from one scene to another 'smoother'
-A narrative needed to be added
-There was too many performance shots and use of a white backdrop
-The lighting made the video dull
-The jump cuts were very noticeable because of the movement of the actor's hair
At this point we were happy with our progress. We were planning to make all the changes that the class had suggested already and this reassured us we were on track. We were also glad the audience had picked up on our strongest points at this stage. In regard to the jump cuts, we weren't aware of the movement of the actor, this way it was good we had shown the video to the class as they had picked up on it. Out options were to either re film or break up the jump cuts and add in our narrative between them. We decided to add in our narrative, as re-filming would take more of our time and the actor's time. The audience also suggested we add more locations. However, we had already planned to film in 3 different locations, the dance studio for the dance scenes, outside for the narrative and against a white background for the performance shots it was just a case of filming in the different locations and editing them into the video.
We have now taken into account all of the improvements and made changes to the video to make our finished final project. We then showed the finished video to the class and our friends again to gain more feedback.
From the feedback we got after the project was finished it was clear that the video had definitely improved since the initial screening. If I was to make the music video again I would make it more abstract rather than leaving it simple, I would also experiment with more locations and ensure that the lighting is right before starting to film.
